Sep, please tell us about what you do, how you ended up doing this and why you are passionate about your work.
I am an accounts assistant working for an accountancy and I assist with end of year accounts, VAT returns payroll and compliance.
I came to the UK in 2008 to study accounting at university. At the time I never intended to stay in the UK and presumed I would move back to my home country after completing my degree. Due to a change in life circumstances I ended up staying in the UK after graduation and working in retail for a while.
Through a mutual friend Faye and I share, I was offered the opportunity to interview at Fuse in 2014 and was fortunately accepted, allowing me to begin my career in my chosen vocation.
Tell us about your greatest achievement.
Completing an academic degree in a second language and being able to pursue my career in an industry that always interested me.
What would your advice be to someone thinking of entering finance as a profession?
Do your best to focus on the exams to get qualified! Try to start your career in a small firm to gain varied experience in different industries and have the opportunity to focus on an area of finance you find interesting.
What is your experience of the finance industry from a woman's point of view? Would you say it is a good career choice for a woman?
Finance can be very rewarding, but also demanding as well. You need to consider this and make sure you maintain a healthy work/life balance. Don’t feel like you have to choose one or the other.
What's your best financial advice for any woman?
Set a budget and stay away from credit cards!
Thank you, Sep!
